| Resurrecting the revolutionary quasi-concept-album-widely-scoped quirk folk writing styles of 60's Brit-pop (Arthur-era Kinks and Odyssey and Oracle-era Zombies) blended with the unique spindly-fingered guitar work of late 70's NY punk, the unwonted segues of 90's post-rock (Stereolab) and pedal-obsessed wizardry of early indie-rock, then dashed with a bit of a surf-rock flavor and poetic croons blended with urgent crackled cries.and somehow you'll get the Oscillating Fan Club and their flavored, whirled debut EP. "Suburban Lovers of the Undead." perfectly frames the guitar interplay, with Ray Thompson's rickenbacker's crunchy-fuzz rhythms facilitating Pierce Reynold's spacey-surf-tone reverberated freakouts while Rob Veresh combines tribal with precise, and machine gun marches and John Fairweather quips in his mid-range moan-to-roar "Climb inside, wave goodbye," all building up to a grand sonic avalanche of Reynolds conjuring high-necked lightning with the song nearly riding off the rails before it concludes. "I'm Worried Bout The Shape I'm In" and "Party Hat" are stellar re-imaginings of surf-flavored beach parties where you almost feel the sand between your tows as Veresh sets perfect pounding herky-jerky swing tempos - with the latter of two featuring a stellar fuzz-strut from Thompson leading into a sweetly-setting-sun chorus over intricate cymbal taps. Centerpiece "This House is Prepared" is a ruthless start-stop steady popper documenting the fatalistic approach to nuclear holocaust, accommodated by hard-hooking guitars and an delicate offsetting rhythm chording, as Ray screams along with his roaring rickenbaker.
